The stars were out at Castleford Academy as the school celebrated another tremendous year of sports during their presentation night.
Castleford Tigers player, Oliver Holmes was joined by his former team mate Dan Igbinedion as they presented the winners with trophies and certificates.
Castleford Tigers Ladies were also on show as Georgie Hetherington and Leigh Powell joined the festivities. But they weren’t the only ones representing women’s sport as Huddersfield’s Emily Heckler also made an appearance.
There was certainly a lot to celebrate as the Academy was recently named in the top 100 schools for sport in the UK. With plenty of trophies surrounding the winner’s stage it’s clear that they enjoyed a very successful year.
However, there could still be more silverware to come as the Year 7, 8, 9 girls and the Year 7 and 10 boys go to the National Champions School Rugby League tournament.
The Academy runs a wide variety of sports as winners came to collect their awards for: basketball, cheerleading, hockey, rounders, netball, athletics and gymnastics.
In total there were 79 awards that were given out in front of a packed house made up of parents and pupils.
With so many success stories on the night it’s clear that our local school is on its way to creating new sporting stars. Perhaps some of them will return in the future to present awards for another generation of students.
