Norwich City 1-2 Huddersfield Town
Howson 6′ Kachunga 5′ 40′
Huddersfield Town move up to third in the Championship following a 2-1 victory over Norwich City at Carrow Road.
Two goals from Elias Kachunga sealed the three points for the Terriers who are now on a four game unbeaten run.
For Norwich, their inconsistent run continues as today’s defeat marks their seventh loss in nine league games. The Canaries remain ninth in the table but could drop further down depending on Saturday’s results.
Norwich had a chance to take an early lead through Nelson Oliveira. Jacob Murphy dispossessed Chris Lowe on the right flank and picked out an unmarked Oliveira in the Huddersfield box. The forward, who scored three goals in his last three appearances for Alex Neil’s side, pulled his shot wide.
Moments later, the visitors were in front following a goal from Elias Kachunga. Kasey Palmer drove through the middle and found Tom Smith on the right wing, who drilled in an excellent cross for Kachunga. The winger simply put his head on the ball and gave the Terriers an early lead despite being half a yard offside.
However, celebrations were short lived as Norwich equalised just 20 seconds later. Robbie Brady rescued an over-hit pass and delivered a floated cross into the 18-yard box. Jonny Howson leaped high into the air and powered his header into the bottom right corner to level the game inside five minutes.
Following an eventful start, the match began to settle down. Huddersfield created a couple of opportunities through Wells and Palmer but the game was relatively quiet for the next 25 minutes.
The Terriers began to press and reaped the rewards five minutes before the break. Once again it was the combination of Smith and Kachunga which opened up the Norwich defence and allowed the winger to get his second goal of the game. A shot from the edge of the area made its way through the legs of Sebastien Bassong and into the back of the net.
Only four minutes after the restart, the Smith and Kachunga combination almost worked again. The Huddersfield captain found Kachunga in the area but the winger’s shot hit the side netting.
Despite that chance for the visitors, it was Norwich doing the attacking in the opening exchanges of the second half. Oliveira had the best opportunity to level the score when he pounced on a mistake from Jon Stankovic. With Danny Ward off his line, Oliveira attempted to chip the keeper but the striker saw his effort wide.
Not long after that, the Portuguese forward was taken off and replaced by the returning Cameron Jerome.
With the clock ticking down Norwich were throwing everything they had at the Huddersfield defence. Bassong came the closest to finding the equaliser after the defender’s header narrowly missed the target.
Despite the late pressure, David Wagner’s side held on for the win. It’s three victories on the trot for the Terriers who are now moving up to third in the table.
